About

Consecrated 20th January 1930

On the 20th of January 1930, The Tower Lodge No. 5159 was consecrated at Freemasons Hall (FMH) in London. We have a long lineage dating back to 1765 when our ‘great-great-grandmother’ lodge, St Luke’s Lodge No. 144 was formed. At the time of writing, Tower Lodge is one of about 270 lodges that can trace their roots to St Luke’s all of whom support each other on various activities. As an example, several of our members were honoured to be asked to perform in an ancient ritual in The Grand Temple (FMH) to mark the 250th anniversary of St Luke’s. We also have a close affiliation with Prospect Lodge No. 714 of the Grand Lodge of Indiana and have recently hosted them in FMH, as well as our members travelling to Indiana to participate in their masonic ceremonies.

We currently have over thirty subscribing members from a wide range of backgrounds and occupations, reflecting all the major religions including Sikhism, Islam, Judaism and Christianity. We meet at FMH four times per year. These meetings usually start mid to late afternoon and end about 6 pm. Afterwards we dine at “a local hostelry, where we partake of an excellent meal”. As several of our members travel long distances to FMH and have trains to catch, we try to finish by 9 pm. It is also our intention to hold more regular social functions including our usual Ladies Night.

Our Lodge prides itself on its multicultural diversity, is extremely friendly and has a healthy mix of young and old members who hail from as far afield as Scotland, Chesterfield, Derby and the West Midlands, with the rest living and working in and around London and the Greater London area.

We hold regular Lodge of Instruction meetings in Derby and at FMH and, being an integral part of one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political organisations, based on fraternal and charitable principles, we also like to ensure our masonic ceremonies are as polished as possible, for the enjoyment of the members and our visitors alike.

Like many other Lodges we do not take our membership cadre for granted and are always looking to attract, retain and develop new members who are willing to buy into our traditions, ethos, and quest for continuous improvement in everything we do…and of course have fun along the way!

Hence, we are keen to hear from applicants from all backgrounds irrespective of race or creed who want to make a positive contribution to our future activities and help us secure the future of The Tower Lodge No. 5159 for generations to come.

If you think Tower Lodge meets with your expectations, please contact our Lodge Secretary on or our Lodge Membership Officer on  for more specific information on any of the above.
